Pat Robertson: Asshat of the Highest Order

Hey Pat, here's a little hint for you: if you're planning on building an evengelical Christian theme park in Israel, perhaps you should reconsider saying that God struck down Ariel Sharon for dividing the holy land. Dumbass. Even snarkier comments available on the mefi thread.

Robertson's basically harmless, unless you count the pain he inflicts on the GOP with his misstatements. I would think that liberals would love him. He's the GOP equivalent to Howard Dean.

Arlen, we liberals do enjoy how bad he makes the religious right look, but to compare his outrageously hate-filled zealotry to a guy who sometimes says the wrong thing or screams a little too loud is just ridiculous. And the fact that Robertson has a legion of wingnut followers who believe every word he says makes him not so harmelss.

I think that Dean is not quite as acerbic as Robertson with some of his statements, but his saying we have no chance to win in Iraq (especially when the troops are fighting their butts off over there) is a bit of a loose cannon quote in the vein of Robertson's. Dean even had to "clarify" what he meant and though it wasn't an outright apology like Robertson's had to make (several times lately), it indicated a mis-statement. Still think the comparison has no validity?

Saying we have no chance to win isn't the smartest thing to say politically, but it's not nearly as offensive as calling for a prayer offensive against liberal supreme court justices, blaming 9/11 on the gays, blaming hurricane katrina on Ellen Degeneres hosting the emmys, etc. I suppose you could compare anyone who puts their foot in their mouth with Robertson, but Robertson is in a very special category of outrageousness.
