Hey hey my my

Despite the fact that I haven't picked up one of his albums since Ragged Glory, I've always had an appreciation for Neil Young. He's had an incredibly long and prolific career exploring many dimensions of music from beautiful country ballads to blistering feedbacked guitar epics. Now just seven months after releasing Prairie Wind, he's surprised his record company and everyone else by recording a new album with an anti-war, anti-Bush theme in just over a week and is coming out soon. It features a song called "Let's Impeach the President" which apparently features samples of Bush speaking over a gospel chorus singing "flip flop, flip flop." I for one cannot wait to hear the whole thing.

Oh joy, just what we need... another political voice from the "artistic community".

Here's a clue guys... you're not going to win any elections running on the "I HATE BUSH" wagon... You're better off telling us YOUR opinions, but as of lately the Democratic Politicians haven't had much practice at that aspect of politics.

James, what is it that annoys you and your conservative brethren so damn much about artists expressing their opinions? I don't hear you complaining about Toby Keith and his jingoist music, yet every time somebody like Neil Young or Green Day or anybody else with an opinion you disagree with who puts that opinion to music, I hear the waaaaambulance coming from the right about how they should just shut up. How American! So have you heard this entire album or read all of the lyrics before coming to the conclusion that the whole thing is "I HATE BUSH?" In fact, distilling the entire argument of about half of this country into three simple words is pretty intellectually dishonest if you ask me. Why don't you tell us what you like about a man who has lied to get us into a war, has authorized the erosion of our privacy and liberties, who has championed the Taliban-like agenda of the extreme religious right, who has played politics with the lives of Americans and can barely make a sentence in English. Seriously James, how can you continue to support this man with a straight face and an ounce of dignity?

Did I say I still support the man?

Personally, I LOVE Toby Keith's song about putting a boot in the ass of anyone who dare strike a blow against us.

Now whether or not we ACTUALLY followed through with that, is a different story.

I'm all for people's ability to agree/disagree with political policy and political figures... it's part of what makes the US the US... BUT, what bugs me is that you get news coverage like the following:

"Have you heard that Toby Keith song about putting a boot in someone's rear end? Oh yeah, I've heard that one... on the other hand did you hear Neil Young has published an ENTIRE ALBUM themed against Bush? Oh no I didn't please enlighten us... (30 min news block ensues about how IMPORTANT it is that Neil Young publish such an album)"

The PROBLEM I have, is NOT that someone has a negative opinion of the President, it's just that equal press is never given to positive/negative news. Negative vibes sell better, thus making me change the channel.

The news cannot get a politician with the balls to stand up for what they believe in (they're too scared for their votes), so they find a liberal mindset from the "artistic" community with no worries about 'votes' who is MORE than willing to blabber for hours on end... then present it as if it came from some big wig policy maker.

hmm positive/negative.....

WAR. bloodshed.genocide.

OR

peacefullness.

which gets promoted more in our society?

i wonder?

maybe if more people used that creative spark we were all born with and enjoyed as kids (which is socialized out of us for our "GOOD"), we'd be in a much better place today, with alot less uptight folks who tout violence and control as the number one important thing in their lives.

James, do you seriously think that a character created by some Nashville music producers to sell records to angry rednecks is going to garner the same kind of news for his ugly American anthems as a 4 decade rock legend?

So what positive news could anybody put out about this current administration? Even Fox News has to struggle to whitewash this national nightmare these days.
